Ghost voice generator
Ghost Voice Generator
This ghost voice generator makes a line sound as if it reaches you from another room — or another decade. Banshee already climbs from whisper to wail; the Ghost effect strips away her body, hangs a four-and-a-half-second tail behind every word and sends a faint, slightly sharp twin after her. Preview any voice through it free, then write your own spirit.

Script ideas
Ghost lines that carry
A ghost is mostly absence, and the script should be too. Skip the explanation. Give one date, one room or one unfinished sentence, and let the long tail fill the silence after it. Tap any of these to open it in the ghost voice generator.
“Don’t paint over the wallpaper. I wrote my name underneath. If you cover it, I won’t know where I live.”
Whisperer keeps it intimate; the tail supplies the distance.
“You keep asking if anyone is here. I answered the first time. You were all talking over me.”
For a fictional ghost-hunt scene, keep the host’s questions dry and put only the answers through Ghost.
“Cold. Cold here. Under. Under the stairs. Help.”
Bury it under hiss or room tone in your editor so it reads as found audio — a fictional effect, not evidence.
“I still set out your cup. I still hear the gate at six. Why do you never come in?”
Matron turns it sad rather than hostile.
“They said it was an accident. They said it in this kitchen. I was standing right behind them.”
Push toward 100% and the dry voice almost dissolves into the tail.
“Turn around. Turn around. Turn around.”
Switch to Reverse: the clip plays backwards through a 3.5 s hall, like a moment from a séance tape.
Effect recipe
How the ghostly voice is built
The Ghost effect works by taking weight away. It runs live in your browser through the Web Audio API, and at the 75% intensity the ghost voice generator opens on, it does five things:
Banshee
- 1
Remove the body
505 Hz high-pass, 7 kHz low-passEverything under roughly 500 Hz goes: chest, warmth, the proof that someone is standing there. Rounding off the top keeps it from sounding close to the microphone.
- 2
Step back
dry voice at ~36%The direct sound is turned down, so you hear less of the speaker and more of the space around them.
- 3
Long tail
4.5 s reverb, ~86% wetAt this mix the reflection is louder than the voice itself, which is what “from another room” actually sounds like.
- 4
Detuned twin
1.2% fast, 45 ms late, ~23% levelA faint second copy, about a fifth of a semitone above the original pitch, starts a beat late and drifts against the voice. It never lines up, and that slight wrongness reads as a presence.
- 5
Slow drift
0.97×, about −0.5 semitonesA slowdown too small to notice on its own, but enough to make each word feel as if it is sinking.
How it works
Three moves with the ghost voice generator
- 1
Write less than you want to
One unfinished thought per clip. Ghosts repeat themselves; they don’t explain.
- 2
Decide who they were
The ghost voice generator starts on Banshee, for a spirit with a grievance. Whisperer suits a frightened one, Matron the presence that still tucks the children in.
- 3
Set the distance
Ghost at 75% is the starting room. Slide down to bring them closer, up to push them through the wall. Every change is instant and free.
Use cases
Where a spirit voice generator fits

Haunted-house rooms
A thin voice from behind a door or inside a wardrobe. The ghost voice generator has already cut the low end, so a small hidden speaker can play it without boom or rattle.

Ghost-hunt reenactments
Fictional paranormal shows and found-footage shorts: script the “answer” the investigators catch, label it as fiction and keep it short.

Story podcasts and audio drama
The dead narrator, the voice on the old cassette, the mother who never left. Regenerate in the ghost voice generator when the script changes and the effect stays identical.

Games and interactive fiction
Whispered hints, memory echoes, the voice that only speaks in one room. Export a WAV with the effect baked in for each trigger.
Tips
Tips for a more ghostly voice
- Write in the past tense, then slip once: “I lived here. I live here.” The slip is the haunting.
- Ghosts address someone. Use “you” and a specific place — the landing, the third step, the kitchen window.
- Leave silence after the line; a 4.5-second tail needs room to finish.
- Keep EVP-style clips to a few words, tuck them under hiss in your editor, and present them as fiction.
- For a ghost whisper voice, sign in and start the line with the Cinematic engine’s [whispers] tag, so it begins as breath before Ghost thins it further.
- If the detuned twin is too obvious, pull the ghost voice generator below 50%; the twin’s level falls with the slider.
